Below is a collection of the questions asked by our readers which I have compiled and edited.
I have categorized them as follows:
1) I am scared to let my wife know I gamble online and therefore I don't want to use my correct personal details when setting up an online casino account – is it ok to use a fake name or address? Martin, Malaysia
TheOddsKing says: Not if you hope to win! Online casinos require your correct information to protect against fraud and money-laundering. When you win and request cash out, the online casino risk department will usually request a scan of some form of ID and maybe even a scan of a utility bill to confirm your identity and address. Payments are never made if the identity cannot be verified.
2) My friend asked me to sign up an account for him at an online casino. Can I have more than one account at an online casino? T** L**, Ipoh
TheOddsKing says: No. Once you have registered with an online casino, you will need to always play with that account. If you've lost your password or username, you can email support to get these details sent to you.
If you intend to create multiple accounts to get the bonus multiple times, the casinos are way smarter than that dude! You will be treated by online casinos as fraud, and may result in your accounts being locked and your winnings confiscated.
3) There are so many online casinos out there, blur man. How do I decide which casinos I can trust? Lee, Singapore
TheOddsKing says: Read reviews and forums to find out what others have to say about the casino. Personal experiences make the best reviews. Trustworthiness is the single most import aspect of online casinos as you want to be paid if you win. Check out reviews for independent opinions of various casinos, and ask questions on forums. Then return the favour by adding your own reviews of the online casinos you have played at.
4) How do I find out how to play certain online casino games? Where to learn before I start playing for real? Various People
TheOddsKing says: TheOddsKing.com has How-2-Play Guides for a number of popular online casino games here . Eventually, if I can get down to it, my aim is to have a guide for every online casino game offered by our reviewed casinos.
Once you know how to play, the gurus will teach you how to win! Check out the Strategy section here
for the best strategies to adopt for playing online casino games and tournaments.
Most casinos also offer fun modes for players to test out the games in fun mode (not involving real money) before playing for real money.
1) I played poker on xxxx and wanted to withdraw my winnings of around US$300. Why is it that when I deposit, the money goes through immediately, but when I withdraw, the casino said it will takes 3-5 working days? It’s been the 4th day and still has not got anything. I am worried. Lim H C, Singapore
TheOddsKing says: Assuming you have played at a legitimate poker operator, relax man bro. I know it’s frustrating when online casinos take time to send you your winnings after you cash out; however this is done for your protection. They want to ensure that if someone makes an unauthorized withdrawal from your account, you have time to cancel it.
Further, they may want to let their anti-collusion department check your withdrawal and hand history, to make sure you won the money cleanly.
TheCardsKing says: that in the operations backrooms of online casinos, the most resources are spent on risk: To make sure players do not collude with other players and to preserve the integrity of the card room. Another trick up the sleeve of casinos would be to try to change your mind about the withdrawal during this time by getting customer service to offer you some bonus. Remember once the withdrawal has gone through, the casino loses the money forever. The primary aim of online casinos is to make sure players leave their money in the account and lose it all in the long time. Don’t fall into this pit hole. If you win and want to withdraw, be firm!
2) I was playing a game, and my computer froze. What happens now? Chong, KL
TheCasinoKing says: Like most things, that depends on the casino. While some may allow you to take the turn again, others will count that as a placed bet no matter what. When you sign up for your account, you acknowledge that you have read the rules of the casino (whether you actually did read them or not) and therefore you are legally bound to whatever rules they have regarding frozen computer wagers.
3) I have won at a play, and I think the sum isn’t right! Chong, KL
TheCasinoKing says: Looks like you have a lot of technical problems Chong, which online casino do you play at? ☺
Anyway every casino handles money disputes in various manners, using their Terms and Conditions that you accepted to as a condition of game. Don’t be astonished if they cancel out any winnings that there’s a dispute. Land casinos usually do this, and online casinos also normally can do the same. Check your hand history, do your sums and call the customer support team immediately if your win/lose calculation is wrong.
Most of the time however, according to my experience, the software would be correct (a calculator is hardly wrong right?) and the problem lies elsewhere (disconnection, poor line, mistakes etc).
4) I have wagered the wrong sum on the last hand. What is the way to void the bet and get my money? TY Chat, Thailand
TheCardsKing says: It’s too late buddy! After a bet is made, the amount and the bet are set, and there isn’t any way to go back. This is true for any type of casino, land or online. After you have bet your credits or chips and confirmed them, they are accepted. You don’t go after the dealer demanding a refund in a casino after she said “No More Bets” right? You will most likely be thrown out! So, be attentive when betting, because there isn’t any remedy for “gambler’s remorse”.
5) What happens if I am disconnected from the internet or my computer crashes in the middle of a game? Rahman, Jakarta
TheOddsKing says: Most online casinos have built-in software that will freeze the game if you are disconnected or if your computer crashes. When you log back into the online casino software, it will automatically take you back to the frozen moment in the game when you were disconnected.
1) Is it really safe to play in online casinos? Various People
TheOddsKing says: It's just like buying things off the internet. Most online casinos who are in this business for the long run knows that cheating anyone will just lead to word spreading like wildfire on the internet and an premature death. There is no need for them to cheat and run because operators know that keeping the integrity of a casino is a sure fire method to make money in the long run.
2) Do I need broadband (hi-speed internet connection) to gamble online? Tan D Y, Singapore
TheOddsKing says: You don't really need a high-speed internet connection to enjoy the thrills of online gaming. Most online casinos will work perfectly if you're using a dial-up modem to access the internet. But the reality is: If you're going to play seriously or for long periods of time, you might want to consider upgrading to a faster internet plan.
3) I got to know this online casino. How can I find out if the casino is safe? Various People
TheOddsKing says: Find out if the casino operator publishes payout reports that are certified by an independent, listed accountancy firm? Such a report shows you how much of the sum they take in is passed back as win money.
Next, do they have an operator license? They must state who they are licensed by, and do check these licensers for legitimacy. Finally, make certain that they license their software from a decent provider with an independent site on the web. There are only that few big independent software providers and chances are the most reputable casinos will get their software from one of these boys.
4) Is it possible to get a virus or spyware downloading the casino client? Lilian, Kuching
TheOddsKing says: No, highly impossible if you are playing with a legitimate operator! Besides, the aim of casinos is to keep the players online for as long as possible and not prevent them from playing.
5) How do online casinos make money? Various People
TheOddsKing says: This is the Holy Grail in the gaming industry. The mother of all questions: so I better let TheCasinoKing answer.
TheCasinoKing says: Unlike online poker rooms, which take a flat percentage from each pot for hosting the games, online casinos offer games which are slightly in their advantage.
For example, if you played Blackjack (with surrender), the casino advantage has miniscule advantage, less than 0.4%. This is a tiny edge for the casino, but over millions of hands, they can make enough to justify their expenses in buying the software and setting up their online casino. Casinos are in it for the long run and volume counts.
All casino games have different House Advantage odds, with some games being more advantageous to the house than others. Always know your games, learn to do well and make the odds work for you. Read TheOddsKing to show you how.
TheCardsKing & TheCasinoKing says: In general, blackjack is the most favourable game in the casino. The house edge for blackjack ranges from about 0.15% to 0.45%, depending on the house rules and number of decks. Occasionally, single deck games can be found which give a slight edge to the player. I have listed below some common games and their house edge, these numbers assume that an optimal betting and playing strategy is used.
Some Common Games and Their House Edge:
Craps line bets with single odds: 0.8%
Craps line bets with double odds: 0.6%
Baccarat "bank" bet: 1.06%
Baccarat "player" bet: 1.24%
Red Dog: 2.8%
Roulette, double zero wheel: 5.26%
Roulette, single zero wheel: 2.7%
Keno (estimate): 20% to 25%
7) How the outcome of the computer games generated? Raymond, Singapore
TheOddsKing says: By computer games, I suppose you are referring to the RNG games. All reputable online casinos use a very sophisticated Random Number Generator (RNG) to create a randomized outcome for each game. All games that involved cards are created with this random number generator.
TheCardsKing says: In all card games, like Blackjack and Baccarat, the RNG will technically shuffle the deck/s of cards prior to each hand being dealt. When accountancy firms verify the payout of an operator, a major part involves technically verifying the randomness of the outcome of a RNG. Some smaller operators get their RNG chips from an independently verified third party provider to justify their integrity and gain legitimacy among the online players community.
1) How do online casino bonuses work? Some bonuses offered sounds too good to be true. Various People
TheCasinoKing says: Marketing wise, online casinos often scream bonuses to attract new players that can seem almost too good to be true. For example, a 300% to $300 bonus (deposit $100, play with $400).
Pennywise, online casinos are able to offer such big bonuses because they don't have the expensive overheads or running costs of a land-based casino (staff wages, building costs, licensing, tax, etc).
TheCasinoKing adds: A great portion of the profits online casinos make is devoted to marketing efforts in player acquisition and retention. In a land based casino, some types of players are attracted by the cheap beer and buffet or a good live band. For online casinos, a huge portion of marketing is set aside to be returned to the players through sign up promotions and bonuses. Of course all these boil down to great news for online casino players.
HOWEVER: Make sure you read all the Terms & Conditions for a bonus you are thinking about accepting, as online casinos sometimes put restrictions on the bonuses to protect themselves from Advantage Players. An Advantage Player is someone who signs up purely for the online casino bonus and has no real interest in actual online gaming.
2) What are bonus wagering requirements? Johnny K, Malacca
TheCasinoKing says: This is the minimum number of times that you must gamble/wager a bonus before you can cash it out. For instance, if your bonus was $50, and there is an 8x bonus wagering requirement, then you have to wager $50x8 or $400. Once you have placed the minimum amount in bets, you can cash out any winnings you might have. Always read the terms and condition for other information as we cannot cover all here.
3) Do I have to play with the bonus? What if I don't wish to accept the bonus and the subsequent Terms & Conditions associated with it? Lilly, KL
TheCasinoKing says: You never need to accept the bonus if you do not wish to. However, as most bonuses are credited automatically by the online casino software, you will usually have to contact online support to have the bonus removed. Always understand every Term and Condition first. If you are start playing before the bonus is removed, you will usually be restricted by the Terms and Conditions.
TheCasinoKing says: A reload bonus is a subsequent promotional bonus some online casinos offer to reward you for re-depositing. When you make a second or third deposit, some online casinos will offer you attractive bonuses for doing so. As per usual, always make sure you check the terms and conditions for details of reload bonus offers before committing.
1) I have seen lots of people keeping scorecards, following ‘dragons’ at baccarat and winning lots of money. How do I best maximize my chance at baccarat? John L, JB
TheOddsKing says: If you go to any land based casinos, you will see scores of people scribbling down the results of the baccarat game in their own format, in the hope of finding a trend to capitalize on and try to predict the outcome of the next event. They cursed and swear or scream in joy when the cards are revealed, then feverously noting the outcome on their score card.
Online casinos do the same and they provide punters with an assortment of scorecards to cater to the different formats punters are used to and keep everyone happy.
TheCasinoKing says: Mathematically speaking, baccarat is something you cannot predict or do card counting. The casino makes sure of that generally by cutting the cards at the beginning and end, using 6 or more decks, and burning cards at the start and with each subsequent hand. However based on my years of experience with good punters, most of them swear on using the scorecard to try predict the outcome or vary their bets accordingly.
My stand here is that scorecards are great elements to add an extra dimension to the game. It provide excitement and give players a sense of control. However, in the mist of the excitement, you as a punter must realized that the outcome of previous games do not dictate or give an indication of future games to come. Instead use the score card combined with a betting strategy. In this case , you will be much better off than just relying on pure intuition with just a scorecard. 2) I read that the payback percentage of a slot machine is usually around 90%. What does this means? Chee, Singapore
TheCasinoKing says: This is usually also known as the payout ratio. Basically, this means that of all the amount that is played on a particular slot game, for every $100, the payout will approach $90 in the long indefinite run. This figure also represents the theoretical win amount for every $100 played in the long run.
TheOddsKing says: That’s the easy part to understand and is the beauty of slot games: That other people can contribute to the pool and if you are the lucky one, you can win the bulk of the payout if you are at the right place at the right time. The lure & attraction of the big jackpots is also what’s keeping hooked on slot games. Read my article

3) I have read that the game of blackjack can be beaten, why are casinos still offering blackjack? KK, Brunei
TheCasinoKing says: With a good player who truly understand the theories and logic behind Blackjack, it can be beaten. The sad fact is that for every smart player out there, there are many undisciplined players who thinks they are good but don't play well enough to win. Blackjack can be beaten but it’s not easy to master the technique of doing so.
Most land based casinos tolerate low wagering card counters as an expense of running their business. For every good player, there are several bad card counters that will lose money. When the first books on card counting books were written, the profits of casinos actually grew as hoards of new players flocked to the casinos thinking they can beat the system but ended up losing.
The number all adds up. For online blackjack, the casinos count on the fact that many players are not disciplined enough to follow basic blackjack strategy, which happens to most players who think that they can beat the system. Further, most if not all online casino’s bonuses are not redeemable on blackjack, in order to prevent abuse. Read my article on blackjack strategy.
